Thankfully, a solution has emerged! We’ve introduced the WebChatGPT Chrome and Firefox extension, enabling ChatGPT to access the internet for more precise and current responses. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the simple steps to use this ChatGPT extension effectively. You will learn how to connect to internet.

1. Add the WebChatGPT plugin to Chrome or Firefox


To grant ChatGPT internet access, follow these steps to install the WebChatGPT Chrome extension:

  1. Launch your Google Chrome browser.
  2. Navigate to the Chrome Web Store.
  3. In the search bar, enter “WebChatGPT.” Alternatively, you can use this direct link: WebChatGPT Extension.
  4. Click the “Add to Chrome” button alongside the WebChatGPT extension.
  5. Confirm the installation by clicking “Add Extension” in the dialog box that appears.

Follow these steps to install the WebChatGPT Firefox extension:

  1. Launch your Mozilla Firefox browser
  2. Navigate to Extentions Page
  3. In the search bar, enter “WebChatGPT.” Alternatively, you can use this direct link: WebChatGPT Extension.
  4. Click the “Add to Chrome” button alongside the WebChatGPT extension.
  5. Confirm the installation by clicking “Add Extension” in the dialog box that appears.

2. Sign in to ChatGPT

Once you’ve successfully added the WebChatGPT extension to your browser, proceed to the next step by accessing the ChatGPT login page:

  1. Open a fresh tab within your Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser.
  2. Visit the login page at chat.openai.com/chat.
  3. Log in using your OpenAI account credentials.
  4. Ensure that the “Web Access” toggle is activated, located at the bottom of the page.

3. Set Up Your Preferences

Now that you’re logged into ChatGPT, you can configure your preferences for the WebChatGPT extension. In the example provided, we are retrieving 5 results that have been published in the last week from a US source.

Below the ChatGPT text box, adjacent to the web access toggle, you will find four settings:

  1. Choose the number of results to fetch; typically, starting with 3-5 is a good option.
  2. Specify the time frame and region from which you want to obtain results.
  3. Optionally, you can click on “Default prompt” and then “Create New Prompt” to design your own template for prompts when using the WebChatGPT extension.

4. ChatGPT Live Web Search

With your preferences configured, it’s time to put them to use and witness the improved accuracy in responses. ChatGPT’s newfound ability to access live web information makes it much more proficient in understanding various topics and queries.

Here’s how to use it:

  1. In the ChatGPT chatbox, type in your query while making sure the web access toggle is active.
  2. The extension will promptly furnish you with the latest, up-to-date information relevant to your query, complete with citations if applicable.
  3. You have the option to reference up to 10 results for obtaining the most precise information. However, it’s important to note that fetching too many results might yield less favorable outcomes.
